Calibrate P2's Aimed Measure
Updated Dec 2,2024
Updated Dec 2,2024

Overview

When using the Aimed Measure feature under the “Process on slats” mode, you may encounter measurement errors greater than 1mm. This guide provides step-by-step instructions to calibrate P2's Aimed Measure, ensuring that measurement error is reduced to within the acceptable limit of 1mm.

Applicable scope

This guide applies only to the xTool P2 model with the distance sensor shown in Figure 1.
  • You can confirm the sensor model by removing the upper cover of the laser module.

Before calibration

Troubleshoot 3 aspects

If these troubleshooting steps resolve the measurement error, calibration of the Aimed-measure may not be necessary.
  1. Ensure the X-axis gantry is level. If it’s tilted, refer to The Adjacent Lines in the Engraved Rectangle aren't Perpendicular for adjustments.
  2. Ensure the material is flat and the slats are straight. If either is warped, adjust them or replace them.
  3. Avoid using transparent or high-reflectivity materials for calibration, as these can cause measurement errors. If necessary, cover such materials with white paper.

Prerequisite

Required tools

  1. A Windows or Mac computer (with xTool Creative Space Version 2.3 or above installed).
  2. An infrared calibration tool set.
    • The tool set can be requested for free from the xTool Support Team at Support@xTool.com.
    • Alternatively, you may 3D print the tool set using light-colored materials. For accurate calibration, paint or cover areas with black sponge (see Figure 3) in black. Download the 3D model file here: Calibration Tool 3D Model .

Calibration procedure

#1 Accessing device settings

  • Open Device Settings by clicking the gear icon in the upper-right corner after connecting the computer to the machine.
  • Based on your computer's operating system, press the corresponding keyboard shortcut to load the "Distance measurement":
    • For Windows: Ctrl + Shift + C
    • For Mac: Command+ Shift ⇧ +C
  • In the Distance Measurement section, click Calibrate.

#2 Calibration method selection and preparation

  • Select the corresponding calibration method.
    • In the Aimed measure section, click Calibrate.

    • Click Start to calibrate aimed-measure.

    • Click Ready, next to proceed.

  • Prepare the machine for the calibration process.
    • Install all slats on the device, skipping two slots between each two slats.
    • Assemble the calibration tool set and make sure that the -21mm side is positioned as shown on the Device preparations page.

    • When the preparation is ready, click Next.

#3 Red spot positioning and result comparison

  • Red spot positioning
    • On the Red spot positioning page, use the arrow buttons to adjust the laser module until the red spot is centered on the calibration tool set's surface as depicted.

    • When the adjustment is done, click Next. The calibration process will begin automatically.

    • Verify that the red spot is positioned on different sides of the tool set that are parallel to the baseplate, and then wait for the process to complete.

  • Result comparison
    • If the graphics match, click Yes. The laser module will automatically return to the home position, and the P2 is good to go.

    • If the graphics differ, click No and repeat the calibration steps.
