Use the Cutting Blade to Process Materials with xTool M1 Ultra

STEP 1 Connect xTool M1 Ultra to XCS

(1) Use the USB cable to connect xTool M1 Ultra to your computer. And turn on the device.

(2) Open XCS on your computer. On the top-right corner of XCS, click the +New project button.

(3) On the upper right corner of XCS, click the Switch device / Connect device icon next to the device.

(4) Click Connect device. Select the device to connect.

Note: If you have connected an xTool device in XCS before, move the mouse pointer to the device name and click Connect in the list.

STEP 2 Install the blade

There are three types of blades in Blade Cut mode. Select and install your cutting module according to your needs:
  • Cutting blade
  • Rotary blade
  • Fine-point blade

Cutting blade

(1) Remove the blade cap.
(2) Remove the cover of the multi-function carriage, and open the clamp.
(3) Insert the cutting blade into the hole inside the carriage. The triangular sign should face you. A magnet will hold the tip in place.
(4) Close the clamp and return the cover to the multi-function carriage.
(5) Install the multi-function carriage on the holder, and toggle the locking bar to lock the carriage.

Rotary blade

(1) Remove the blade cap.
(2) Remove the cover of the multi-function carriage, and open the clamp.
(3) Insert the rotary blade into the hole inside the carriage. The triangular sign should face you. A magnet will hold the tip in place.
(4) Close the clamp and return the cover to the multi-function carriage.
(5) Install the multi-function carriage on the holder, and toggle the locking bar to lock the carriage.

Fine-point blade

(1) Remove the blade cap.
(2) Remove the cover of the basic carriage, and open the clamp.
(3) Drop the fine-point blade into the carriage's clamp.
(4) Once the fine-point blade is flush with the top of the clamp, close it, and put the cover back to the basic carriage.

STEP 3 Place the material

(1) Open the lid of xTool M1 Ultra, and place the FabricGrip cutting mat on the baseplate.
(2) Place a sheet of felt on the cutting mat.

STEP 4 Select the processing mode and material name

(1) On the top of the canvas, select Blade cut as the processing mode.
(2) In the top right corner of User-defined material, select the name of your material and click Confirm. Click More xTool materials in the bottom left corner to search for more materials. If you can't find the name of your material, you can select User-defined material.

STEP 5 Design a processing object

Use the left-side tools to create objects on the canvas.

STEP 6 Edit objects and set parameters

After you select a material on the material list or material library, the software will automatically set parameters for laser processing. The default settings apply to xTool materials. You can adjust the settings based on your needs.
If you select User-defined material, you need to set the processing parameters by yourself.
(1) Select an object on the canvas and set parameters for it.
Module: There are three types of blades. You can select the processing blade accordingly.
(2) You can further edit the objects by using the other features in the upper panel.

STEP 7 Mark the processing area on the canvas

(1) On the upper toolbar, click the flag to mark the processing area.
(2) Select a marking mode based on the shape of the target processing area, and click Start marking. And you can see the pop-up window.
(3) Manually move the laser module to make the red cross spot fall at a vertex of the target processing area, and press the Point marking button on the device to record the position. Then, repeat the same steps to record the other required vertex(es) for the target processing area.
(4) Make sure two points are marked. Click End marking > Done, and then the target processing area will be marked out on the canvas.

STEP 8 Measure the distance

(1) Move the laser module over the material. Ensure that the red cross falls on the surface of the material. Then close the lid.
(2) Close the lid and click the Auto-measure icon to measure the distance automatically.

STEP 9 Preview the processing area

Framing means that the laser module moves along the boundary of the processed object on the material, so that the processed area on the material can be previewed. If you want to adjust the framing parameter, refer to Framing Settings for details.
(1) Click Framing and Press the button on xTool M1 Ultra to start framing.
(2) After you confirm that the processing area is proper, click Framing completed in XCS.

STEP 10 Start processing

(1) On the bottom right corner of the software, click Process.
(2) Check whether the accessories or modules are prepared before processing on the right list.
(3) Preview the processing pattern and path.
On the bottom-left corner, click the button, and XCS will show you the processing path. (4) In the upper right corner of XCS, click Start to start processing.
 
(5) When everything is ready, press the button on xTool M1 Ultra to start processing.
