Is it possible to do embossing via depth map with the rotary attachment installed and set up?

My goal: to emulate the functionality of a CNC lathe to tool some 5mm diameter aluminum rods. I need to take some of it down to 3mm diameter, so I'd like to be able to enable the z-axis movement per layer to keep it in focus as it gets to depth.

As I understand it, the rotary attachment takes over the y-axis movement of the system, so it seems like it could be compatible, but I don't see any way to make XCS offer this combination of functionality.

Has anyone achieved embossing with the rotary attachment yet?
