I am curious how others feel about the direction Creative Space is being taken. Are you a fan of what you see coming?
I recently tried to finish editing a project only to discover the “edit” feature was removed for images. I noticed some additional AI features that take credits to use. I used to love Creative Space. It let me do precisely what I needed to do. I was in control.
Now, it has a micro-transaction feel like I'm stuck within some game on my phone that is constantly asking me to earn credits for everything. Plus, AI is only useful as a tool and not when that is your only option. When I know exactly what I want to do, I don't enjoy having to work around what AI thought was a good idea. I don't know any creative people that enjoy AI doing the creating. I'm not a big fan of micro-transactions or credits either, and the belief that people will provide valuable or worthwhile feedback or comments when the incentive is earning the credits they need to use a function, is 100% flawed.
I'm not sure what the end-game is for Xtool and where they are taking Creative Space, but I wish they would first ask and then listen to their users before making major changes.
To me, Creative Space is a tool. Something to be used in the creative process. Could you imagine other tools working in this way? Imagine grabbing your jigsaw but only being able to cut a straight line unless you entered “credits” into the handle so you could cut shapes. Or if instead of being able to cut and move freely you had to rely on AI?
To me Creative Space seems to be moving more away from being a tool and more into the realm of someone's pet project of being flashy and gimmicky. I can't say the hardware was a major factor in me selecting Xtool, but the software was a main consideration. And once I purchased LightBurn and discovered how much time it took just to get things connected and working correctly, and the number of Youtube videos I watched trying to figure out the menus etc., well I appreciated Creative Space even more! While I still recommend Xtool to my friends that say they want to get into laser engraving, I also find myself explaining how the software used to be so much more useful.
I know not everyone will feel the same as I do, and that really is why I started this - how do you feel about the changes? Maybe people with different models have a different experience. In any case, post your thoughts here please. Let Xtool know if they are headed in the right direction with Creative Space.
